When Herald drew the attention of the chief minister to the plight of the badels in their old age, Kamat said he was willing to work out a package for these women.
“I was part of the programme held to felicitate these women over a decade ago. I understand their condition. I am open to suggestions for a package for these women,” he added.
In fact, Kamat is believed to have immediately spoken to Freedom Fighter Gurunath Kelekar on the status of Badels in Margao. “The chief minister asked me how to go about the situation. He is not averse even to make budgetary provision for these women,” Kelekar added.
