PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday, interacting with students on Children’s Day, said one of the main difficulties of being the country’s Defence Minister was being unable to answer or reply to incorrect facts being reported on media for the fear of letting out secrets to the enemy.
Responding to a question posed by a student during an interaction session at Bal Bhavan, he said, “What happens when you are Defence Minister is that when something appears on TV, you are not in a position to reply because of secrecy and importance of the news. You are not able to answer, because if you answer your enemy may come to know your further steps.”
Speaking on the surgical strikes on the India-Myanmar border and the India-Pakistan border, Parrikar said, “When we conducted a surgical strike on the India-Myanmar border, one of my friends from Goa called me and said before you retire carry out another surgical strike against Pakistan, so that your name will be permanent in history, but I said, my name does not matter, but if the country needs to be given a signal, then I will do it on the day it is necessary.”
Parrikar, responding to another question, said that primary education is very important and it is that time when the brain of the child starts to develop. “We are starting new programs for students in primary schools such as value education, traffic discipline, and also on garbage. These will be optional subjects. Some people think these subjects will bring an extra burden on the child, but they will not be burdened,” he added.
