MARGAO: The Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Thursday has been reminded of his Assembly promise of holding a joint meeting for resolution to the Sonsodo waste. The MMC as well as the Waste Management Minister await the Chief Ministers office to call for the meeting.
The Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and the Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco have reminded the Chief Minister of his assurance of chairing the HPCC meeting to resolve the Sonsodo Garbage issue. The Waste Management Minister, Michael Lobo when asked regarding the meeting said that he is waiting for the Chief Minister to decide a date for the meeting.
Reginaldo has now written to the Chief Minister reminding him of his assurance. “Till date no HPC (High Powered Committee) to be chaired by Hon’ble CM has met to discuss the steps to resolve the long pending Sonsoddo issue. The said assurance on holding HPC before February 10 was given by Hon’ble CM on the floor of the House of Goa Legislative Assembly to my Starred LAQ 005A tabled by me on January 28, 2021” reminded Reginaldo.
“It is given to understand that Margao Municipal Council (MMC) is still unaware and walking in the dark on any such HPC meeting which is supposed to solve the tangle of Bio Methanation Plant/s for Sonsoddo garbage dump between i.e., Goa Waste Management Department and Urban Development,” added Reginaldo.
Lashing out against the BJP over several development issues, the Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai hit out at Chief Minister Pramod Sawant over his supposedly intentional oversight on Sonsodo, calling it an ‘expected U-turn’.
“The CM failed to hold the high-level meeting on Sonsodo, which he had assured on the floor of the Assembly, and now they have taken a U-turn on Sonsoddo and is asking the Municipality Administration to set up its own plant at Sonsoddo or decide contrary to the decision by an elected Council.This shows how incompetent and sly Pramod Sawant is, proving that he is not a capable leader but a dealer,” Sardesai said.
Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said that till Thursday he has no intimation of any such meeting. The MMC is generating a lot of Reject Derive Fuel from Bio Remediation and also the daily garbage collection. Finding no place to dump all that RDF the plant and the roadways are full and the available land for storage of the RDF is shrinking.
