PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday reviewed the progress of water supply augmentation in the State. The government is in the process of augmenting the water supply with an additional 157MLD to the existing capacity.
Parrikar, in a meeting with officials of Public Works Department (PWD) focused on Opa, Assonora water treatment plants (WTP).
A total 157MLD of water augmentation is in process, which includes 27MLD water treatment plant at Opa, 25 MLD plant at Ganjem, 10 MLD plant at Maisal, 30MLD plant at Tuvem, 15 MLD plant each at Guirim and Porvorim.
Water supply to Bardez taluka is through Assonora WTP. In order to increase water supply additional WTPs are proposed at Guirim, Saligao and Porvorim. Implementation of these schemes will ensure 24 hours water supply in Bardez.
Augmentation of existing 15 MLD WTP to 30 MLD is proposed and new plant of 30 MLD is proposed at Tuem.
When contacted, Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar said, “Chief Minister holds review meetings every eight to ten days, wherein he have to put before him the status of the project,” he said refusing to disclose details of the meeting.
Parrikar, last Sunday had reviewed infrastructural projects, including the third bridge over River Mandovi, second Zuari Bridge, national highway expansion, etc.
The Chief Minister is holding meetings on behalf of ailing PWD Minister Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar.
