PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson Agnelo Fernandes on Wednesday alleged that Candolim hotelier Vishwajit Singh’s murder was due to drugs and political patronage of non-Goan community and not because of the rent-a-bike issue.
Addressing the media, Fernandes said, “Yesterday there was a murder in Candolim wherein a person was murdered by using swords. Police said the murder took place due to rent-a-bike issue, on the other side police have given statement to the press wherein they said a lot of illegal activities were taking place at the hotel where the murder took place.”
He said, “Now they are not specifying what those illegal activities are. Many of the locals have complained about the hotel in the gram sabha and also to the local MLA, but nothing has been done. For the past six years all types of illegal activities like drugs and prostitution have taken place in that hotel.”
He questioned whether the police will shut the hotel where illegal activities take place. “If the police knew that illegal activities were taking place, why did the police not take action and shut the hotel? This murder is not because of the bike but due to the cut and share of the prostitution and drug racket,” he alleged.
He added that Goa is not like before claiming that gang wars and other illegal activities have started taking place.
