South Goa and Kushavati have recorded 338 dengue and malaria cases between May and August, with July witnessing the biggest surge, according to data shared by the health authorities.
Dengue cases rose from 9 in May to 38 in June and 91 in July, before standing at 71 in August. Hospital admissions also increased from eight in May to 29 in June and 79 in July, before falling to 27 in August.

Malaria followed a similar trend. Positive cases increased from 22 in May to 26 in June and 50 in July, while 31 cases were recorded in August. Admissions rose from 14 in May to 15 in June and 40 in July, before dropping sharply to eight in August.
The figures highlight the increased burden of mosquito-borne diseases during the monsoon months. Recent reporting also noted 71 dengue cases and 27 admissions at South Goa District Hospital during the first 10 days of August alone.
