CM ridicules Cong’s anti-inflation agitation

Says in 24 years of rule, Cong did not take a single measure to insulate common people from price rise of essential commodities

PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar took a dig at Congress’ anti-inflation agitation in Panjim market claiming that it is only the BJP- led government which has been framing schemes necessary to insulate the common people from the price hike of essential commodities.
“Some parties go to the market and protest against inflation. This is just a publicity stunt. Ask them what they have done for common people when they ruled for 24 years,” Parsekar told the gathering of rickshaw operators in presence of Social Welfare Minister Mahadev Naik and Panjim legislator Siddharth Kuncolienkar.
“Those who try to get mileage by protesting in the markets fail to recognize that it is only the BJP-led government which has thought about common people and worked out anti-inflation schemes,” said the chief minister after unveiling the scheme providing pension for the rickshaw operators.
Parsekar said the Congress during its 24-year long tenure did not draft a single scheme for the benefit the poor or lower middle class people. “BJP has worked for eradicating the problems faced by the people,” he said referring to the recent agitation by Mahila Congress in Panjim market against the rise in price of essential commodities.
The chief minister said the government run schemes like DSS, Griha Adhar and Ladli Laxmi are providing much needed relief to the people. “We are fortunate that there is not a single case in Goa wherein a person has committed suicide due to hunger.”
Parsekar said the government is taking care of people from all the sections of the society. The chief minister hailed rickshaw operators as the mascot of tourism. “Rickshaw, taxi operators and motorcycle pilots are the mascot of our tourism. Because of them we have managed to successfully increase the footfalls of tourists by almost 30 per cent,” he said.
He said Goan rickshaw operators are known for honesty. “We have never heard that rickshaw operators are involved in any criminal or cheating act,” he said.
