CM says IIT project will surely come up at Cotarli, Sanguem

Sawant said that the IIT will give an opportunity to local students to get the best from the training facilities that would be made available at the IIT centre.

CURCHOREM/SANGUEM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the IIT has come to stay in Sanguem and there is no second opinion over the project proposed at Cotarli, Sanguem.

“The land identified for the IIT project belongs to the government and we do not have to approach anyone for the land,” said Sawant, during his visit to Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai’s ancestral house at Cavrem for Ganesh Chaturthi.

Sawant said that the survey operations for identifying the project land to be allocated to the IIT are presently going on and the same will be completed very soon after which the resource personnel from IIT will take a call on the project land.

Once the land stands are finalised by the personnel from IIT, the relevant agreement for the transfer of land to the IIT will be signed. Sawant however claimed some delay caused in handing over the land to the IIT on account of survey and demarcation operations.

“At the proposed site at Cotarli village we don’t have to consider anybody’s say and neither we have to approach any third parties for the allocation of land,” Sawant said adding that the project work is closely monitored by Phal Dessai, who is putting all his best efforts to turn his dream of bringing the IIT at Sanguem a reality.

Sawant further claimed that the project would largely benefit the locals in terms of employment opportunities and also the locals would be able to set up many allied projects such as that of hotels and accommodation facilities once the project becomes functional.

“Phal Dessai has no personal benefits in the project and he is only working for the project to see all-round development of Sanguem and other neighbouring areas,” he added.

While assuring that all group-D jobs at the project site would be made available to the locals besides in other categories, Sawant said that the IIT will give an opportunity to local students to get the best from the training facilities that would be made available at the IIT centre.
