CM says will try to enhance NREGS wages

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat Friday told the House that they have had discussion on enhancing daily wages for National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and they would try to take the decision.
The Chief Minister made the statement during Question Hour today when Churchill Alemao, Minister for RDA said people are not coming forward to work under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme due to low wages.
The RDA Minister said Rs 100 per day guaranteed under the scheme is not sufficient in Goa due to high standard of living. And, he has brought it to the notice of the chief minister, requesting him to increase wages for NREGS from Rs 100 to Rs 150.
To this, Kamat said, they would try to take the decision.
The Question was posed by St Andre MLA Francis Silveira asking whether the government has prepared any estimates for the development of existing playground of Fr Agnel High School, Pilar, Goa-Velha and whether work has been tendered.
The technical approval has been accorded for Rs 17,39,020 and proposal has been submitted to the Scrutiny committee for its approval and work would be tendered on approval of the scrutiny committee, minister replied.
The estimated cost for Phase-I is of Rs 2,54,070 and the work will be executed under NREGS and no tenders are invited under NREGS, he said.
