PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that the subsidy of support price for sugarcane farmers would be released by September 24.
The support price for 150 sugarcane farmers was blocked by the Agriculture Department as the farmers did not possess Krishi cards, which are mandatory for any agricultural subsidy.
Parsekar had assured during the Monsoon Session of the Assembly that the support price would be paid before the Ganesh festival.
“I convened a meeting with the Finance Department as well as Agriculture Department and they informed that all formalities have been completed and the matter is now with the Accounts Department,” Parsekar said.
He added, “The total amount of Rs 58,37,000 support subsidy will now be credited to the accounts of each farmer by September 24.” He said the cabinet has already given its approval for the decision.
On Monday, around 157 sugarcane farmers had blocked NH4A for almost an hour, near the Sanjeevani sugar factory at Dharbandora after a general body meeting at the factory.
Goa has 1,235 sugarcane growers who receive support from the State. Some have not been paid the support price hence the protest on Monday.
