Earlier in the week, traditional fishermen and boat-owners issued an ultimatum to the Centre stating that if projects like dredging of Rivers Mandovi and Zuari, and the proposed satellite port at Betul are not scrapped, they would disrupt the BRICS event.
Reacting to this, Parsekar on Wednesday said such an extreme stand is unwarranted. He added that the proposed satellite port is just an idea put up before the people for their comments so the question of imposing it on the people did not arise.
“What is the connection between BRICS and these marine projects?” the Chief Minister asked.
AGFU has termed the projects as anti-fishermen and being imposed on Goa’s fragile ecology.
