CM urges water consumers not to pay bills if found faulty

Says PWD will issue new bills after rectifying the technical errors in calculations

PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has asked consumers not to pay their water bills if found faulty and that the PWD will issue new bills after rectifying the technical errors in calculations.

Responding to complaints by consumers receiving inflated bills with errors in calculations, Sawant said that discrepancies have been found as the PWD technical team which is working on water bills has calculated the bills wrongly. Because of that many people have received bills three to four times higher than their regular bills.

For now, the people need not pay their water bills. PWD engineer has been issued order to issue rectified bills. For those, who have already paid the bills, the amount will be adjusted in the bills of the following months, Sawant said.

On the other hand, PWD Chief Engineer had also asked the consumers to approach the Assistant Engineer (Water Supply) and to verify the bills and revised bills will be issued wherever technical errors have occurred. In such cases, the consumers have been asked not to pay the bills and the arrears will be adjusted in the subsequent bill to be generated.

The PWD Chief Engineer has also clarified that water supply connections will not be disconnected for all such cases.
