Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Sunday vowed to provide basic amenities to the people of the State so as to maintain the status of Goa as an independent state.
He was addressing the gathering after commissioning the 50 MLD (partial) water treatment plant at Assonora.
PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, MLAs Nilkanth Halarnkar, Deelip Parulekar and Agnelo Fernandes, North Goa ZP President Pandurang Parab, engineer Wacha Sundar and WRD Secretary Tripathi were present on the occasion.
Briefing the benefits of water treatment plant, Chief Minister said due to commissioning of the plant, the water problem of the people of Assonora and Porvorim will be solved totally.
Assuring all-round development of the State irrespective of political affiliations, Kamat said Goa is step ahead in terms of basic amenities like roads, electricity and water compared to other States.
“Sincere efforts will be made to bring Goa back to its No 1 status in the country,” he said.
Kamat further informed about commissioning of a separate independent road for transportation of mining trucks at the cost of Rs 50 crore from Assonora to protect villagers from mining awry. He also informed about well-equipped bus stand and playground for Assonora village.
Speaking on the occasion, PWD Minister Churchill Alemao said presently 10 MLD water will be released through the plant and the capacity will be doubled by June-end and tripled by December 2010 enabling Porvorim and entire Bardez to solve the water crisis permanently.
Earlier, the 50 MLD water project was inaugurated by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and other dignitaries.
Dr Dayanand Rao compered the function, while Vijayanand Raut proposed the vote of thanks.
