Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today said that the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) which were not notified and scrapped will die a natural death in wake of the State withdrawing the SEZ Policy.
Replying to cut motions tabled by the Opposition in the House, Kamat said that the State had asked these SEZ companies to revert back the land allotted by the government.
However, they have approached the High Court, which has asked for a status quo on the matter.
“We are hopeful the case would be in our favour as the State has withdrawn the SEZ Policy. Except in three SEZ cases which were notified, others will cease to exist naturally,” Kamat said.
The government had scrapped all 15 SEZs after massive agitation against these industrial enclaves.
The issue of three SEZs, which were notified by the Centre, is hanging fire as Union Commerce Ministry’s Board of approval is yet to denotify them.
Kamat said that he is hopeful that Centre will de-notify these SEZs too.
“The only worry is about compensation to these units. However, I am hopeful an amicable solution would be worked out if promoters come for discussion,” Kamat, who also holds the industries portfolio said.
Further, Kamat said the State is facing problems to attract new investment due to several issues.
“We have serious problems in attracting new investment but in spite of this we made industries directorate proactive to see that maximum benefit is given to the entrepreneurs,” he stated.
