CMC chief faces third no trust in as many months

CUNCOLIM: Cuncolim Municipal Council Chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas will face a no confidence vote on Thursday.
This is the third consecutive trust vote that Mascarenhas faces in as many months.
The no confidence motion was moved by seven councilors, namely, Polita Carneiro, Premdeep Dessai, Deputy Chairperson Mario Morais, Udesh Gaonkar, Sashank Dessai, Succorina Coutinho and Prenzy Coutinho.
The no confidence motion will come up for discussion and voting on Thursday morning, during a meeting which will be held at the municipal office.
Mascarenhas survived first motion with the help of former Congress MLA Joaquim Alemao, and the second one with the help of former BJP MLA Rajan Naik. Since both Alemao and Naik have lost the Assembly elections on February 4, and consequently, their influence, it is speculated that Mascarenhas may not wither the latest storm.
There are rumors of horse-treading to grab the top job in the municipality and that some of the councilors have been lodged in a posh hotel in North Goa by the son of a politician who wants to wants to keep council under his control.
Those who have moved the motion are confident that Mascarenhas would be voted out this time. However, the chairperson is also confident that she would keep her job and the motion would fail this time too. The opposition members told that media that Polita Carneiro would be their next choice for the post of chairperson.
