CMC wants industrial estate declared as containment zone

MARGAO: The Cuncolim Municipal Council on Tuesday requested the Chief Minister and District Collector to declare Cuncolim Industrial Estate (CIE) as containment zone and establish a COVID testing centre with immediate effect due to rising cases of coronavirus infection amongst the migrants labourers working in the CIE factories.

Most of the councillors and residents of Cuncolim municipal area have been bitterly complaining and agitated against the migrant labourers working in industrial estate and staying in the rented rooms, who are held responsible for the spread of coronavirus cases.

Councillor Soccorina Coutinho said, “It is pertinent to note that many outstation truck drivers and cleaners are visiting steel plants to transport the finish goods to the neighbouring States. As such, these visiting persons along with the migrant labourers are solely responsible for the spread of virus in Cuncolim municipal Area.”

“There is high possibility if the infected migrant labourers along with the truck drives and cleaners are not listed or quarantined, the virus will spread all over Cuncolim and the neighbouring areas,” she warned.
