PANJIM: Stating that primary teachers should register themselves for DEd courses by September 15, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday said that the services of primary teachers who are not qualified with D.Ed by 2019 will be terminated.
“If primary teachers are not qualified with D.Ed by 2019, then they will be dismissed. All should get registered for the course by September 15. This is also an opportunity for the para teachers,” Parrikar said addressing the gathering on the State level function on Teachers Day.
Parrikar also suggested that old practice of selecting teachers for State awards should be changed. “The current selection as a best teacher is an age-old concept. I thought that we can change the entire concept in which it is the student who will decide who is the best teacher. The teacher who is recommended by the students as the best will always be a positive teacher,” he said.
He added that from next year names should be shortlisted and then should be proposed or recommended by students who have passed out and this process could be done online so that even an ex-student who is abroad can recommend.
The Chief Minister also said that the government has taken the issue of improving quality of education on priority and will emphasise on education and Swach Bharat Abhiyaan.
Parrikar also hinted at considering Akshay Patra for mid-day meal while stating that quality food is of utmost importance. “We will not put any Self Help Groups on the road. But they will have to improve themselves. If we get Akshay Patra (NGO) it will be because of the quality and not to shut the business of the SHGs,” Parrikar added.
The CM also felicitated 11 teachers, Kusum Salkar, Renuka Marutitrao, Aruna Patnekar, Jayesh Naik, Ambrose D’Souza, Shrikrishna Naik, Purnima Naique, Pratibha Agranayak, Nandkumar Sawant, Smitha Bhandare Kamat and Dr Bernard Rodrigues, with State awards.
