Colourful start to shigmo at Ponda

PONDA: Shigmotsav celebrations got off to a colourful start at Ponda on Sunday evening with hundreds of people including foreign tourists thronging to witness the floats parade, which wended its way through the streets of Ponda town.

PONDA: Shigmotsav celebrations got off to a colourful start at Ponda on Sunday evening with hundreds of people including foreign tourists thronging to witness the floats parade, which wended its way through the streets of Ponda town.
In all, 46 floats, eight Romtamels, seven folk dance troupes and 88 fancy dress contestants participated in the parade.
The streets of the town resounded to the beats of ‘dhol, the ‘tashas’ and ‘romatamel’, while the floats depicted the culture. Various types of folk dances like Godemodney, Dhangar Nrutya, Samai Nrutya, Kunbi Dance, Talgadi, etc, were performed by the troupes.
Earlier, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar, Co-operation Minister Deepak Dhavlikar and Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamlatdar offered prayers at Mahadev Ghumti and traditional rituals were performed at Tisk-Ponda, from were the floats parade and Romatamel procession started late in the evening.
The government-appointed committee assisted to organise the parade.
