MARGAO: The builder accused of destroying the sand dune at Colva is still holed up in the UK, even as the site now lies exposed to rain.
A visit to the site revealed that the Bio-diversity Board had adopted some temporary measures to protect erosion. Sources in the know said the Bio diversity Board and the Forest department will take up plantation, including planting creepers, on the sand dune after the monsoon as part of a permanent solution to the sand dune.
When Herald contacted the Colva police for a status on the investigations into the criminal case, the police said that investigations into the case have hit a roadblock since the builder is putting up in the UK.
“Based on the address, our police team was deputed to a place, wherein we were informed that the accused is putting up in the UK. We have also information that the accused is expected to come down to Goa only around November-December,” informed Colva PI Uttam Raut Dessai.
The Colva police had come under fire from local NGOs for not detaining the builder on time and facilitating his escape when the incident of destruction of the sand dune had come to light.
