Despite mounting global pressure due to the ongoing Iran war disrupting energy supplies, the central government has chosen to keep domestic LPG prices unchanged, offering relief to households. However, commercial LPG cylinders (19 kg) have witnessed a steep hike of around Rs 993 on average, significantly impacting businesses.
In Delhi, commercial LPG prices have surged to Rs 3,071.50 from Rs 2,078.50, while in Mumbai, rates have risen from Rs 2,031 to Rs 3,024. This marks the third increase since late February, reflecting sustained pressure from rising global crude oil prices.
The impact is expected to be felt most by restaurants, eateries, and small businesses that rely heavily on commercial LPG. Many are likely to pass on the increased costs to consumers, making dining out and food delivery more expensive.
Meanwhile, domestic LPG prices remain stable across major cities. In Delhi, a 14.2 kg cylinder costs Rs 913, while Mumbai stands at Rs 912.50. However, prices vary across cities, with Patna recording one of the highest rates at Rs 1,002.50.
In addition to price stability, new LPG rules have come into effect from May 1. The interval for booking refills has been extended to 25 days in urban areas and up to 45 days in rural regions. Authorities have also made OTP-based delivery authentication mandatory, replacing older verification methods.
Petrol, diesel, and aviation turbine fuel prices remain unchanged, despite oil marketing companies facing heavy losses due to high crude prices. The government is balancing inflation concerns with financial strain on oil firms, even as the prolonged global crisis raises uncertainty about future fuel pricing.
