CANACONA: Already hit by allegations of illegalities and corruption following the collapse of Ruby Residency building collapse, former officers of Canacona Municipal Council could face more corruption charges if a complaint to the Anti Corruption Bureau is any indication.
Salee Eden, a resident of Palolem, has complained to the ACB, stating that two former CMC chief officers of CMC and tourism department officials had abused their position as public servants and had made a false declaration and issued NOC/licences illegally in violation of the Beach Shack Policy at Palolem.
Eden claimed that while one officer gave a false declaration regarding the complete removal of temporary structures licensed for the tourist season 2012-13.
The second officer had issued fresh licenses for the 2013-14 tourist season on the same land, despite being aware of a violation of terms of NOC/licenses, which would have automatically debarred applicants for fresh permission, he stated.
Eden maintained that the CMC and the tourism department could not have issued fresh licences to the owners or the leaseholders of the properties, as they had violated the terms of the NOC/licences. In his complaint to ACB, Salee stated that a stakeholder had erected temporary structures/beach shacks at Nagorcem-Palolem, in view of the NOC/permission by the CMC and tourism department on the strength of beach shack policy.
