CURCHOREM: Some residents from Xelvona in Curchorem have filed a police complaint against a person for allegedly violating CRZ and undertaking land filling at a site in the village.
The residents complained stated that the person has carried out land filling at Xelvona without permission.
According to the police complaint, the villagers informed the Flying Squad about the controversial activities at Xelvona. The Flying Squad and the Talathi of Assolda Panchayat rushed to the site, but the person reportedly did not permit them to inspect the site.
The villagers have requested the police to immediately stop the controversial land filling activity fearing that the person may complete the work within next two days which was going on since last three days. They also claimed that some mangroves on the edge of the river Zuari have been cut.
The villagers also sent the complaint copies to Quepem Deputy Collector, Quepem Mamlatdar, Superintendent of Police (South Goa) and GCZMA.
According to Curchorem PI Ravindra Dessai, the police visited the site and detained two trucks for verification.
“We have written a letter to the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Quepem asking them to act accordingly after inspecting the site,” informed Dessai.
Meanwhile, Assolda Sarpanch Sukhas Dessai informed media that the panchayat secretary and other officials inspected the site on March 14 in the presence of parties concerned and the report will be submitted to the higher authorities.
