VASCO: Clarifying that they had filed the police complaint against the teacher only to ensure all possible action against the teacher, the parents of the girl allegedly molested by a teacher in the school at Vasco said they have been in close contact with the school management in this connection.
Speaking to Herald, the victim’s mother stated that the school had initiated a disciplinary inquiry against the teacher and the police complaint was filed not to hamper any disciplinary inquiry.
“The management had taken us into confidence and kept us informed of the action taken and suspension of the teacher. When the management informed me that the teacher was suspended for six months and the inquiry would go on, I felt insecure and decided to lodge a complaint at the Vasco police station,” said the mother.
“I thought six months is a long period before waiting to file a complaint. If after six months, the teacher is taken back, he would have harassed my daughter. To avoid all these problems, I filed a police complaint,” added the mother.
Admitting that it had taken her five weeks to file a police complaint against the teacher, the mother added, “The school management had informed that they will initiate action and they did so.”
“The management informed us that they were conducting an internal inquiry in the matter and this delayed the police complaint. It is not that we do not trust the management, but we did not want to take a chance and so, we filed the police complaint,” the mother added.
Responding to another query, the parents admitted it should have been the duty of the school management to have filed a police complaint, since the incident took place during school hours and in the school premises. They were, however, quick to express their satisfaction with the action initiated by the school management against the teacher.
