MARGAO: In a bid to revive agriculture in the State, the Comunidade Commission has decided to petition the government to return back to the Comunidades the fallow agricultural land across the State.
Commission member Tulio D’Souza told Herald that at an interaction with the Escrivaoes of all the three zones at Borda, the Commission has no plans to displace anyone from the agricultural lands, but only wants to ensure that fields are put to cultivation.
“The Comunidades are the single largest owner of agricultural land in Goa. But, one finds large tracts of agricultural tenanted land fallow.
Tulio said the Comunidade Commission will petition to the government since agriculture is the base of the comunidade system.
This is the first time that the Commission had an interaction with the Escrivaoes of the three zones.
Commission Co-ordinator Antonio Braganza, member Savio Correia, Advisor Adv M S Usgaonkar, Member secretary Maya Pednekar and Comunidade Administrators Vishant Gaunekar and Dashrath Redkar were present.
