PONDA: Locals from Veling Priol Cuncoliem Panchayat submitted a memorandum to Mardol PI and panchayat requesting them to conduct a door-to-door tenant verification of migrants residing in rented rooms inorder to keep a check on crime.
They cited that thefts at temples and the seizure of ganja worth Rs 1 lakh in Kundaim area was a cause of concern among villagers and demanded that the officials keep a watch on the migrants residing here.
The locals said it will not only help to prevent crimes but help detect migrants residing without proper documents.
Villagers said that such tenant verification process should be done on continuously and added that they were ready to cooperate in the verification drive. The locals who submitted the memorandum included Shivdas Naik, Suresh Naik, Rupo Zalmi, Gauresh Gaude and others. Locals said that migrant workers employed at the Kundaim Industrial Estate were residing in rented rooms in the village and implementing the tenant verification will help to identity persons with criminal background.
