PANJIM: The All Goa Government Recognized Unaided School Association (AGGRUSA) has decided to take up the issue of examinations, infrastructure and the education policy as a whole during an upcoming all India conference.
Announcing the All India Conference on Education called EduVisionIndia 2020 to be held on September 26 and 27, AGGRUSA president Vijay Shetti said there was need to improve the quality of education and to review the education policy including the Right to Education (RTE) Act. “There will be delegations from all over India that will be attending the conference where we will discuss the problems with the RTE. No doubt, the act is a good one but there are certain areas that need to be modified. One of the issues we will discuss is whether or not the examinations up to Class VIII should be held back or not,” said Shetti. He added there was need for more concentration on imparting of knowledge rather than infrastructure. At the end of the two day EduVisionIndia 2020 conference, the association will send a memorandum to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) with suggestions.
Another issue the association will discuss is the 25 percent reservation for economically backward classes in government unaided schools. “One of our suggestions has been to stop this reservation and instead give the money directly to the beneficiary and allow them to apply to a private school,” said Shetti. Convenor of the event, Deepak Khaitan highlighted the need for schools whether government or private to focus more on a holistic education system and encourage a learning atmosphere than a studying one. The first day of the conference to be held at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium on September 26 will feature The Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar as the keynote speaker and Goa University Vice Chancellor Dr Satish Shetye as the guest of honour.
Talks for the second day of the conference will include budget schools and their challenges, parents role in education, education in the light of CRC (Child Rights Convention) and the role of National Independent School Association (NISA).
