PANJIM: It’s been confirmed, this year too, Goa will go without a full-fledged Budget for the financial year 2019-20 as ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will seek a vote on account for five months, after presenting a brief of the financial statement for the fiscal on January 30 before the State Legislative Assembly.
The three-day winter session of the Assembly will begin on January 29 with Governor Dr Mridula Sinha addressing the House. On January 30, the annual financial statement (Budget) 2019-20 will be tabled and on January 31 the vote on account will take place.
The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) met under Speaker Dr Pramod Sawant on Monday to finalise the business of the House. Parrikar attended the meeting, which also had Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo, MGP leader and PWD Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar, TCP Minister and GFP president Vijai Sardesai and Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar.
Speaking to media persons post the meeting, Sardesai said the Chief Minister will table a brief Budget and go for a vote on account for five months. “It will not be a full-fledged budget presentation as it requires more time,” he said.
The BAC has received three government Bills for tabling – The Goa Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Amendment) Bill 2019, The Goa Goods and Services Tax (amendment) bill, 2019 and The Goa Co-operative Societies (amendment) Bill 2019.
