PANJIM: With three days to go to the Assembly elections, Congress attacked the BJP-led government for its U-turns and false promises of the past five year.
Addressing a press conference All India Congress Committee (AICC) Media Incharge Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “There were gaps, which is why we lost power in 2012.”
“One of the charges against the party was that we still have old faces and not attuning to the changes then. We then said that these old candidates were with experience (in the political field) but then we have corrected these gaps. We have learnt fresh lessons and brought new freshness and commitment,” he said as he expressed confidence of dethroning the BJP.
The party media chief claimed that Congress’ vision is transparent governance, empowered Goa and an accountable government and will obliterate BJP’s ‘paralysis of governance and proliferation of crimes’.
“Overwhelming support and all round blessings of people of Goa has ensured that Congress will form the next government. A new ‘Paradigm of Development’ has been unveiled, which can be best described as “WE SHINE” (Water & Electricity, Employment, Special Status, Health, Institutionalizing Mining Reforms, Natural Development of Goa as a Tourism Hub, Ensure Crime Free Goa),” he added.
He assured that Congress will give power to the people and power for their welfare, and charged the BJP government with making false promises with frivolous intent and shifting goal posts and intolerant out posts.
“BJP government in Goa is a series of ‘U-turns’ & ‘falsehoods’. Prior to 2012, they promised abolition of VAT on petrol but within months of coming to power, VAT was reimposed. This is despite the fact that international price of crude oil reduced from USD 118 per barrel in 2014 to an average of USD 50 over the last 30 months. Complete inaction in the alleged Rs 35,000 crore mining scam with not a single arrest reflect complicity and falsehood. Be it the destruction of coconut trees by amending the Preservation of Trees Act or spurt of an organized mafia crime, drugs and prostitution; Goa under BJP is a story of shattered dreams,” he alleged.
