PANJIM: A day after the BJP resolved against installation of Dr Jack de Sequeira statue in the State Assembly complex, the Congress party has appealed the Goa Forward leaders to abide by the Niz Goenkarachem Utor and withdraw from the BJP-led coalition government.
“We appeal to Goa Forward leaders to abide by the Niz Goenkarpachem Utor given on January 16 at Lohia Maidan and withdraw from the coalition government since the BJP, the senior partner in the coalition government, has joined hands with its junior partner, the MGP, and decided not to install the statue of Dr Jack Sequeira in the Assembly complex next to the statue of Bhausaheb Bandodkar,” All India Congress Committee Secretary Girish Chodankar said.
Recalling the public announcement by TCP Minister Vijai Sardessai and Jayesh Salgaonkar, Chodankar said that the Goa Forward president and senior minister had announced that the party would go to any extent to get the statue installed while his other ministers and leaders had declared that they would withdraw from the government if their demand was not fulfilled.
“The latest resolution by BJP not to allow Dr Jack Sequeira’s statue in Assembly Complex has come as a blow to Goa Forward Party, which has been seen trying to cling to the power at the cost of the State. Vijai Sardesai has been getting exposed at every step, and now it is amply clear that entire well scripted drama of ‘Opinion Poll Day celebration’ was merely a political gimmick. Whatever we have said is becoming reality and every actor in the drama is playing perfect role as per the script,” Chodankar said.
