MARGAO: The opposition leader has demanded that the government moves an amendment in the next winter session and delete the six rivers of Goa namely, Chapora, Cumbarjua, Mandovi, Mapusa, Sal and Zuari from the Schedule of the National Waterways Act.
Opposition leader Babu Kavlekar said that the Congress at the last CLP meeting had resolved against the nationalisation of the six rivers and also to demand removal of the rivers from the list.
“We have written to the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and expect that it be taken seriously and decided in favour of the mood of the people of Goa, Babu said.
CRZ rules are already so strict and people have no liberty of using their land near the water bodies and sea. The fishermen community will suffer if the rivers are nationalized, besides it is harmful for Goans, he added.
Speaking on the road widening and National Highways, the opposition leaders said Goa was a small state and so much road widening is important but is unnecessary, besides on government projects too the state needs to take people into confidence.
Congress MLA of Curtorim Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said on the coal issue that agitations are a sign of something bad coming the way of Goans and said they had opposed widening, coal and nationalisation and we stand by it.
