PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Shantaram Naik on Sunday has said that the Madhya Pradesh Government should register an FIR against Hindu Mahasabha leaders and charge them with the offence of sedition for constructing a temple at Gwalior, devoted to Nathuram Godse, killer of Mahatma Gandhi.
Addressing Congress workers at the Congress House on Sunday on the occasion of birth anniversary former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Naik said that BJP appears to be out to rewrite the history of country, more particularly, the role played by Indira Gandhi, who humiliated Pakistan by detaching Bangladesh from Pakistan.
“Those who directly or indirectly support building temple for Nathuram Godse and downplay Indira Gandhi’s role in the creation of Bangladesh, can go to any extent. All those leaders who are prima facie involved in the construction activities of the temple, directly or indirectly, should be arrested by police and their custodial interrogation has to be sought,” said Naik.
He further said that the role of Madhya Pradesh BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the matter, should also be investigated and an FIR should also be registered against them.
“The construction of the temple could not have been done overnight, and that the authorities who gave construction licence and the employees of Town and Country Planning Department, who gave NOC to the project, are equally guilty and the investigating agencies have to seek a warrant of arrest against them from the magistrate concerned,” Naik added.
Meanwhile, Naik said that the Union Government, which is presently drafting a New Education Policy should restrain the members of drafting committee, from praising Godse, in the policy document.
