Cong dissolves all Block committees

PANJIM: The Congress party seems to be in a perennial state of turbulence. Amidst speculations about the replacement of party president John Fernandes with AICC general secretary Luizinho Faleiro, all 40 Block Congress committees were dissolved on Wednesday.

Interestingly, the order has been signed by the incumbent president John Fernandes even as he left for Delhi a day prior on Tuesday and did not reach Goa when the copy was circulated to the media.
The order states that until the new committees are formed by September, the respective general secretaries should continue to hold the charge.
“Under the powers vested in me under the Congress Constitution, I John Fernandes, PCC President do hereby dissolved all 40 Block Congress Committees in the State of Goa,” the order reads.
“The process of reconstitution of the committees will begin immediately in the first week of September 2014. Meanwhile, all the PCC general secretaries who are in-charge of the respective blocks, will function as coordinators in the interregnum. The order will be effective with immediate effect.”
Fernandes in a press conference held a couple of days ago had announced that block committees would be dissolved and new ones would be appointed.
Initially, the membership drive for the party as per an internal circular was supposed to have started by October with intra party elections to be held by December.
