VALPOi: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) along with the members of Valpoi Block Congress Committee and the Poriem Block Congress Committee held a protest in Valpoi town on Tuesday. They later submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Collector, Valpoi demanding that the Environmental Clearance (EC) granted to the Karnataka government for the Kalsa-Bandura Project be revoked immediately. They added that if Chief Minister Pramod Sawant fails to get the EC revoked, then the CM and his government including the opportunist defectors will stand exposed.
They also made a strong demand that the government should strongly register its protest with the Centre to withdraw unilateral consent given to fulfill selfish political agenda.
Hundreds of supporters were present for the protest in Valpoi to save Mhadei River. However, Goa’s tallest political leader and the Congress senior MLA Pratapsingh Rane from Poriem constituency were not there for the protest.
Addressing the media, GPCC President Girish Chodankar said that there is a by-poll in Karnataka and to get the BJP candidates elected in the by-poll and to form the BJP government in Karnataka. “For this the BJP-led central government is trying to kill Goa. But we will not sacrifice our mother Mhadei River at any cost. We will hold big protests against this government,” Chodankar said
“The Health Minister, Vishwajit Rane and the leader of modern Sattari had visited Delhi especially to wish the Union Minister Amit Shah on his birthday, whereas, the whole of Sattari is dependent on Mhadei River. However, till date, the minister has not spoken a single word on the Mhadei river diversion. Congress condemns the silence of Vishwajit Rane on this issue, he added.
