MAPUSA: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee members on Thursday protested outside the Mapusa Electricity Department Office and confronted the EE Pradip Narvekar over “inflated” electricity bills.

They alleged that by inflated electric bills, the government has shown how insensitive it is towards the people of Goa during this COVID Pandemic.
“Households which usually receive bills of Rs 500 have now received bills amounting to Rs 2,000 and above and similarly, households which received bills amounting Rs 2,000 have received bills of almost Rs 16,000 in the last three months. Due to the lockdown people are sitting at home, there is no proper source of income. People are using basic electricity, but issuing bills with such huge amount is harassment to the common man”, Congress member Sankalp Amonkar claimed and insisted that government should pay all the bills.
The Congress members demanded that government should waive off the electricity bills of last three months and added that government does not have to pay from its pocket but suggested to adjust the bills through taxpayers’ money and funds received since people does not have money to pay such huge amount.
After hearing the protesters out, EE Pradip Narvekar said that he will put forth the issue before the higher-ups.
