VASCO: AICC Secretary Girish Chodankar on Tuesday assured that after coming to power, the Congress would give priority to rehabilitation of all the victims of Baina demolition besides preserving the traditional fishermen from Baina. He was speaking to reporters after formally releasing Congress manifesto for Mormugao constituency at Baina.
“After speaking to people of Mormugao, we have prepared a vision document and have listed out our priorities. However, I want to give an assurance that besides taking up other issues and developmental works promised in our manifesto for Mormugao, the Congress will give top most priority to the rehabilitation of the people who lost their structures in phase-wise Baina demolition citing CRZ norms.”
Challenging the BJP to declare Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar as its next chief minister, Chodankar said, “the BJP has again started their drama of indirectly projecting Parrikar as the chief minister. However, they are not aware that people are frustrated with BJP as well as Parrikar. I challenge the BJP to declare Parrikar as its CM. I am pretty confident that if BJP takes such steps, Congress will get additional two seats in the forthcoming elections.”
He also said that though the Congress party had assured 50 percent seats to new faces and youth and looking at response, party gave tickets to 60 percent new faces. He said that the Congress cannot do away with the senior leaders as they are experienced.
Meanwhile, commenting on his election manifesto, Amonkar said that he and his supporters have put in lot of efforts to present a vision document in the form of manifesto. “We have included all aspects including health and other amenities in Mormugao. We will provide full-fledged health centre, eradicate cola pollution, put in place waste management,” he said.
