PANJIM: Congress is preparing to corner the government during the upcoming 20-day monsoon session of Assembly scheduled to begin from July 15. Congress Legislature Party (CLP) met on Tuesday to draw their strategy.
Speaking to media persons after chairing the meeting, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Chandrakant Babu Kavalekar said that the MLAs met to chalk out their strategy for the session so that problems faced by Goans are taken up for discussions and solutions sought.
“At times when the government does not have relevant information or they know they will get cornered, they convert the starred question into unstarred so that the issues do not come up for discussion. We will not allow that to happen and we will corner the government on issues which demand urgent attention of the government,” he said.
“A common question everyday by all Congress legislators on the most important issues will be asked and the other two starred questions would be based on the local constituency needs of the Legislator. This way we will ensure that no issue of Goans is skipped without discussion by the government,” he further said.
Stating that due to late replies from the departments and ministries the MLAs are not able to study the matter and discuss the matter, he said that during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting a demand will be made to provide replies atleast 48 hours in advance instead of tabling them when the question is placed in the House.
Kavalekar further said, “There are many resolutions which have been passed in the House but there is no implementation by the government. For example the pension of the retired seamen was increased from Rs 2500 to Rs 5000 but nothing has moved on that mater. And there are other similar issues where resolutions have been passed but execution is awaited.”
