PANJIM: The Congress party in Goa is covertly delighted after BJP patriarch Lal Krishna Advani raised the red flag and tendered his resignation from all party posts, sending the Bharatiya Janata Party into a tizzy. They squarely blamed the reason for fissures within the BJP at the doors of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who was selected as the 2014 election campaign chief.
AICC Secretary and Goa desk in-charge P Sudhakar Reddy hit back at Narendra Modi for his Congress bashing by saying, “Modi says ‘Congress ko mukt karo, Desh ka nirman hoga’. In less than 24 hours of his promotion, he freed Advani (on his resignation). Let’s see how many more he frees in the coming days.”
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Subhash Shirodkar was on a roll on Monday and told media that Modi’s entry had resulted in cracks within his very own party. He even dared to say that Modi was a bad omen for his party.
“Cracks have already developed in the BJP and it will spread to NDA soon…He will eliminate many more leaders from the party, not only Advani,” he told Herald.
Leader of Opposition, Pratapsing Rane was more circumspect. “He (Advani) is a senior leader; It is the internal matter of the BJP,” Rane said choosing to keep a stoic distance.
South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha more forthright. “We are happy with his (Advani) resignation. BJP itself is bad for us. They thrive on divisions among countrymen,” South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha told a press conference Monday.
The party, on the backfoot after being hit by allegations of large scams has expressed confidence that the present turmoil in the BJP will bring the Congress back to the Centre again.
