PANJIM: The Congress on Wednesday took a dig at the Goa Forward Party (GFP) for criticising its silence over the cabinet decision to drop the SEZ corruption charges against three Congress MLAs. Congress spokesperson Agnelo Fernandes said the party has always been claiming it was not a scam.
“The cabinet has taken a decision to drop charges against our legislators. The cabinet has more than half – GFP’s three ministers – that took the decision. It was not a decision of the Congress so where is the question of our MLAs agitating in the well of the House?” he asked, addressing a press conference to counter GFP’S argument on the decision.
Fernandes said it was an irony that GFP was making this demand. He stated that in a complaint by the then deputy manager of the IDC on August 2, 2006 it had only names the ‘companies and other people’ being involved in the scam. “It had not named any Congress legislators or CM. We have been saying since the beginning it is not a scam,” Fernandes reiterated.
On Tuesday GFP chief spokesperson Trajano D’Mello had sought to know why Congress had not come out openly against the dropping of the scam charges against its three MLAs which includes two ex-chief minister and the present opposition leader.
