CURCHOREM: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has said that the Congress would field a strong candidate against Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar if he decided to contest from Curchorem constituency.
He was addressing party workers in Congress office at Curchorem on Sunday. Incidently, Reginaldo is in-charge of Curchorem constituency.
Stating that party is ready for by-election at any time, he said that Parrikar may not contest from Curchorem and urged the workers to be united forgetting all the difference to fight against Parrikar if at all he decided to contest from Curchorem.
“We will take all the Congressmen into confidence and will put up the strong candidate against the BJP candidate if local MLA quits the seat to make a way for Parrikar to contest the election from Curchorem,” Reginaldo said.
When some party workers suggested the name of AICC Secretary and former Goa Youth Congress President Girish Chodankar, he said that he has no objection for his candidature. “I am with the party and will work for the party. Let us meet and decide the candidate; but we must fight the election unitedly by bringing all the congressmen together,” Reginaldo told the workers.
Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, who had won the Curchorem seat for a second time in a row with huge margin of 9088 against Goa Suraksha Manch’s candidate and former Curchorem MLA Shyam Saardekar, is likely to resign his seat to make a way for Parrikar, who has to contest and win the seat within six months to be a member of Legislative Assembly.
