MAPUSA: The member of the State unit of Mahila Congress peacefully protested the spiraling prices of coconuts and the plan of importing coconuts from Kerala or Sri Lanka. The protest was held in Mapusa on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho said, “Goa does not need to import coconuts from Kerala or Sri Lanka, because Goa already has ample production of coconuts. The supply of coconut has gone down since the prices of coconuts are touching the sky and common man cannot afford it.”
“We condemn the BJP government for its decision to import coconut from outside Goa and our protest will not stop till this government does not reduce the price of coconut and sells it at subsidised rates,” Pratima added.
