PANJIM: Congress has lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption branch (ACB) of the Directorate of Vigilance against Public Works Department (PWD) officials and contractors alleging a scam in the construction of the Porvorim road.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) General Secretary Sunil Kawthankar, in his complaint has demanded that an FIR be registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC against officials involved in the scam. He also asked for steps to be initiated to blacklist the contractor or contractors.
The newly laid 500-m-long pothole-ridden stretch of road in Porvorim, from Sanjay School onwards towards Panjim has turned into a danger zone for vehicles and commuters. The incessant rains have worsened the situation.
Local MLA Rohan Khuante had slammed PWD for the pathetic road conditions.
The complaint states that the officials concerned, by means of commission or wilful omission, have allowed extremely substandard work resulting in a road which is worse than those found in the mountainous terrain of the Leh-Ladakh region.
“This road was constructed a few months ago with a fresh layer of tar at the cost of the public exchequer, but surprisingly, just three days of rain started washing away major sections of this road,” he said.
