The Margao Congress Block’s door-to-door Special Summary Revision (S.I.R.) Awareness Campaign triggered considerable tension on Wednesday after supporters of the local MLA allegedly confronted and obstructed the team as it attempted to educate residents on their electoral rights and ongoing voter-list procedures.
Launching the campaign at Azad Nagar, Congress Block Convener Savio Coutinho, along with party members and Booth Level Agents (BLAs), visited households to verify whether the Booth Level Officer (BLO) had followed due process. According to Coutinho, every house they visited complained that the BLO had failed to return the mandatory acknowledgement copy given to voters during form submission.
“As we kept receiving the same response, the BLO appeared and claimed he did not hand over the acknowledgement copies because the residents might lose them. This excuse is unjustified and irresponsible,” Coutinho said.
