PANJIM: Congress on Friday criticised Dr Pramod Sawant-led government over his plan to construct a new Raj Bhavan at a time when State is reeling under financial crisis due to COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement released on Friday, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar alleged that government wants to convert the Cabo Raj Bhavan into a Casino Spa Resort and hence has floated an idea of constructing new Bhavan.
Chief Minister, last week, announced to construct new premise for Raj Bhavan, as the existing centuries old building is declared as heritage by Archeological Survey of India. The initial process such as identification of land, and its design would be tendered by April, next year.
“The Chief Minister had admitted during the one-day Assembly Session that the State’s finances are in a bad shape. Despite that, the government announced projects like construction of new Raj Bhavan building and renovation of the Assembly Complex, which need crores of rupees,” Chodankar said.
He charged that the insensitive government has no money to pay monthly pensions to the Dayanand Social Security Scheme (DSSS) beneficiaries, windows, senior citizens, seafarers and persons with disabilities, but also goes ahead with constructing memorial of former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar, almost worth Rs 15 crore.
