PANJIM: Congress has demanded a CBI inquiry in the Shanu Gaonkar 2006 murder case where BJP candidate Vishwajit Krishnarao Rane is allegedly a suspect.
“We strongly demand CBI inquiry in the case. It is a very sensitive case and we have no faith in police under BJP government. The case has direct involvement of BJP candidate as alleged by his former driver and key witness in the case Pandurang Adarkar,” AICC secretary Girish Chodankar said.
Chodankar said that despite the witness naming BJP candidate VK Rane, police have not called him for questioning.
“If it was any other person, police would have arrested him by now,” he said.
Congress has urged DGP Muktesh Chandra to monitor the case till it is handed over to CBI without succumbing to any political pressure.
