PANJIM: Pointing to failure of BJP-led government in fulfilling any of its promises made in the House during the monsoon session of the Assembly, the Congress Legislative party (CLP) has decided to give the government one month to implement the assurances.
Alleging irregularities in drafting the revised Outline Development Plan (ODPs) for the cities, the CLP has decided to study the ODPs prepared by its government in 2007-08, before taking any stand against the current government’s planning process. Several MLAs pointed out how rules and regulations are being flouted while drafting the plan.
Speaking to the media after a CLP meeting, Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Kavalekar said its members discussed the status of promises made by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and his Ministers in the House. “We realised that apart from the Governor’s assent to the Bills like amendment to the Agriculture Tenancy Act and Goa Preservation of Trees Act, no other promises have been fulfilled,” Kavalekar said.
The election code of conduct in force due to the by-elections in Panjim and Valpoi, can be attributed to not fulfilling the promises, the Congress leader said. “We have now decided to give them one month to fulfill all the promises or assurances,” Kavalekar said, refusing to disclose what will be party’s stand if the government fails to do so.
CLP also discussed how to go ahead with the Goa Requisition and Acquisition of Property Bill, 2017, which has been referred to a select committee. “The first meeting is yet to take place. MLAs Pratapsingh Rane and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco are members. We are waiting for the first meeting to take place before deciding on our stand,” Kavalekar said.
