PANJIM: Former Karnataka Minister and Congress Goa desk in-charge, Dinesh Gundu Rao, on Friday declined to comment on the contentious Mhadei river water diversion, the issue that has triggered a major conflict between Goa and Karnataka.

Rao is in Goa for his first two-day official visit after being appointed as AICC in charge of Goa, last month. On Friday, Rao had closed-door meetings with Congress district and block presidents to discuss the party’s preparations for the 2022 State Assembly elections.
Speaking to media persons, Rao said that his visit to Goa was delayed as he had tested positive for COVID-19.
Responding to a question on Mhadei, the Congress leader said he will discuss with the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) and senior leaders before making any statement on various issues related to Goa, including Mhadei.
“I will hold a detailed press conference tomorrow (Saturday) to answer all your questions. Before making any statement I want to have a discussion with my party cadres,” he said.
Meanwhile, sources said that Rao urged party cadres to ensure a smooth victory for Congress in the 2022 elections. “Rao was very clear that the 2017 blunder should not be repeated. Congress will have to work as a rigorous opposition and expose the government before the people,” sources said.
