Despite the Congress suffering major losses across North Goa in the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections, Aldona once again held its ground for the party, with Congress candidates winning both seats linked to the con stituency even as the BJP MGP alliance dominated most of the region. The Congress re tained the Aldona ZP seat through Maria Menezes, who polled 4,712 votes. The party followed this up with a win in Sirsaim, where Nilesh Kambli se cured 4,701 votes. Parts of the Aldona Assembly constituency, including Nachinola and Moira, fall under the Sirsaim ZP con stituency. The twin victories came despite a sustained push by the BJP to capture both seats, triggering celebra tions among Congress workers and supporters in Aldona. The results con tinued a pattern seen in recent elections, with Al dona holding firm for the Congress even as the party struggled across much of North Goa. Aldona Congress MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira congratulated both winners and said the out come was significant as it unseated the BJP from the Aldona ZP seat, which it earlier had a hold of. He said the victories came despite a personal cam paign against him and divisions within the op position. Ferreira also said op position vote splits had helped the BJP secure vic tories in several constit uencies across the State, often by narrow margins, adding that outcomes could have been different had opposition votes con solidated. Congress leaders said the Aldona and Sirsaim wins opened the party’s account in Bardez taluka in the ZP elections and provided a morale boost at a time when the BJP and MGP swept most North Goa constituencies.
