PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday held a protest march against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office at Patto-Panjim in solidarity with Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi over the summons issued to him in a money laundering case in connection with the National Herald-Associated Journals Limited deal.

Congress leaders, including GPCC president Amit Patkar, MP Francisco Sardinha, Leader of the Opposition Michael Lobo, party MLAs, office-bearers and workers carrying placards shouted slogans against the central agency even as police stopped them. “We condemn these vindictive politics started by the BJP,” they said.

Lobo said that BJP has started a political vendetta against its opponents for questioning them. The Union government is misusing Central agencies like ED, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Income Tax to suppress the voice of the opposition in a democracy.

Patkar, Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo, Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress president Beena Naik and Goa Pradesh Youth Congress president Varad Mardolkar also spoke.

They said that the Congress leaders have been “falsely implicated” in the National Herald newspaper case and accused the BJP-led Modi govt of misusing the Central agencies to harass political opponents.
