MARGAO: NCP’s Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao tore into Congress for taking the support of a ‘pro-merger’ party like MGP and for trying to help their candidates in the ZP elections.
“Sardinha’s statement has only cleared the fact that Congress is supporting and taking the support of MGP in the ZP election. We would never think of aligning with the party that is pro- merger,” said Churchill.
However, responding to the charges, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar said that they are open to the alliance with MGP to ensure that BJP candidates are defeated in areas where Congress isn’t strong at the moment. He emphasised that there is no compromise in the party’s fight against BJP.
“We had got various parties to align with them. However, there are some parties who are partners of the NDA and against the Government and some are saying that they are not NDA members but they favor the Chief Minister,” said Girish, while terming it a ‘bizarre situation.
