MARGAO: Congress Party while demanding the government make public the exact plan for the Zuari bridge, alleged the proposal to divert Panjim bound traffic from Kesarval via Vasco was a ploy to help the contractor gobble up government funds.
Briefing media persons South Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Joe Dias said the contract provides for constructing bypass roads which he said the contractor does not want to do and hence the proposal to divert the traffic.
“How can the traffic on a National Highway be stopped?” he asked and pointed out that by pass and alternate roads were constructed for the bridge across Mandovi and wondered why the same cannot be done in Cortalim.
“The narrow village roads in Mormugao taluka will not be able to handle the increase in traffic if the road is closed at Kesarval,” he said while also questioning the logic behind closing it for one year and added that Congressmen from all over Goa will protest against this move.
He also pointed out that Hospicio regularly refers patients particularly accident victims to Goa Medical College at Bambolim and said the diversion will prove costly for such patients saying that instead of reaching the hospital at Bambolim, they may as well lose their life.
RUMBLERS CAUSING ACCIDENTS: While pointing out that rumblers are supposed to prevent accidents, he said the rumblers at erected at Chinchinim are a cause of accident as the height is much above the prescribed parameter. He said there have been around 50 accidents at the spot since the rumblers were put up and demanded that the height be reduced immediately before anybody loses a life due to them.
